History

The First Presbyterian Church of Belen was founded in 1964.  The church has its roots in the German Protestant community that settled in the area in the late 1800’s.  This early beginning evolved into the Belen Federated Church of Christ, a non-denominational protestant church.  Following the migration of several denominations from the church, the membership voted to form the First Presbyterian Church of Belen in 1964.  In 1998, the church moved to a desert bluff overlooking the Rio Grande River valley 3 miles from the original downtown church.  We are a church proud of our past and eagerly looking forward to the future.

Mission

By the grace of God the First Presbyterian Church of Belen seeks to exhibit its calling under the leadership of the Session and its committees, deacons, pastor and choir director to proclaim and respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ:

In worship.
In nurture.
In witness to the world and our community, to invite people to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ and to participate in the healing the reconciliation within the world and our community.
By community.
In making these priorities of mission possible and publicly known.

Our Congregation

Our constituency of members and friends is a cosmopolitan mixture of people who are natives of Belen and other parts of New Mexico and persons from all parts of the United States.  It is comprised of persons who are currently working and those who are retired, both Anglo and Hispanic and represents a cross section of economic and age groups.  There is a wide spectrum of denominational backgrounds among the members.  Members live throughout Valencia County and Northern Socorro County, this community of faith is committed to a life together in worship of God, nurture within the congregation and witness to Jesus Christ.
